Have you ever come home from a beach trip to notice your wedding ring looks a little duller than usual? Or maybe you’ve noticed that your favorite jewelry is looking a little duller than the rest of your pieces?
In today’s blog, our team at Preusser Jewelers will cover the best tips for removing sunscreen, and tarnish from your favorite jewelry , which seems to get dirtier in the summer.
What is Tarnish?
Tarnish is a chemical reaction that can take place on the surface of your jewelry. It results in an unattractive discoloration, which can make areas of the piece appear to be black, green or reddish (some other shades too!)
Common things that cause this buildup include:
- Sunscreen
- Pool chemicals and household cleansers
- Dirt
How Do I Remove Tarnish From My Jewelry?
We strongly suggest you bring it in. You can damage your jewelry if you use the wrong solutions. We do sell various cleansers, that will clean most pieces. But it really is better to have us do it. Most times, this can be done while you wait. If the piece is badly tarnished, we will take it in and have our master jeweler give an estimate on making it look like new again.
